Bill (William) Hyatt > TVO> the vintage one, has passed away:( December 26 2023.
    88 years old Odessa Florida
A brilliant fellow, regarding materials and manufacturing processes, attention to detail, theoretical engine building and more.
He and I have had many emails, back and forth, of "Combustion Engineering"
I will miss his knowledge and his comments.
(He has not posted on t...

    Bob,

Any idea how many of those early original frogeyes still exist? I can only remember seeing one at an AH weekend IIRC without the rear axle hump reinforcement and with only the single triangular panel either side of the engine bay.

    Mike,
The very early Frogeye's had a slightly different rear shockabsorber and link. These cars did not have the strenthening section above the rear axle amongst other things. Fatigue cracks apparently developed and the shock absorber mountings changed and strenghening sections added. The shock absorbers were changed from PN 2A7298/99 to AHA5311/12(the arm was shorter) The link changed from 2A...

I should also have asked the following:

When (if) it dies as you are driving along while the momentum of the car is still spinning the engine what's the tach doing i.e. registering or dropped to zero?

Secondly under the same circumstances what is the ignition warning light doing i.e. glowing while the engine is still spinning, or not glowing until it has stopped?

I changed the gasket/filter a couple of months ago on my B. I smeared a little silicone around just the edges of the gasket before fitting . After a run on inspection a little oil could be seen on the bottom of the small bolts so I tightened them a bit more and have done this a couple of times more since. Its surprising that each time the bolts tighten a little bit more without over stressing them....

    I think this qualifies too.

Remember Star Trek: The Motion Picture, featuring V'ger? Here's the amazing reality. Launched from our 'pale blue dot' in 1997, Voyager 1 keeps on travelling. 15 billion miles and counting. And there's also the identical Voyger 2; a mere 12 billions miles away and counting.

"The White wire from the under dash connecter to the switch runs very warm. too hot to touch but doesn't melt the insulation. "

That indicates to me there could be a partial short on that wire somewhere. At the most headlight and HRW wires might feel a bit warm after being on a while but never too hot to touch. In which case it could well be dragging the voltage to the ignition down, oc...

If all the above don't fix the issue, Take the screws off from the diaphragm and twist the diaphragm to the left one hole. Hook the power wire and ground back on and see if it continues to click.

If not, back it off another hole.

It could be that you are just a little to tight on the diaphragm.
